Effect of salt water aquariums on septic systems?

urine salinity

urine salinity

I think you are confused in this right.....Your urine has a SPECIFIC GRAVITY of 1.010-1.30+ depending on the amount of dissolved solids (sodium only being a small percentage of these analytes).

I have one with no ill effects. Remember your urine has a salinity of 1.30.

you can add salt water to a septic but the best thing to do is back it up with some ridx or other type of bactira i dump about 15 gallons a week down mine and i have my tank pumped ever 3 or 4 years

the ridx thing sounds like a good idea....least for me that i only dump say 10 gallons a week down the toilet.....we are on septic also

My house still has a septic system, although its only grey water. The house got city sewer years ago, but they left the sump pump, washing machine on the old septic for some reason. I dump about 80g-100g of saltwater down into the sump pump everymonth, have been for the last six years. It hasnt killed my grass, and suprisingly, hasnt killed my sump pump yet either.

If I had full on septic, I dont think I would dump saltwater down the lines.

I researched this awhile back being on a septic system. A small amount of brine (few tens of gallons a week) is actually beneficial for the bacteria in the septic system from what I read. Don't remember all the details though.

I agree with Bill it was nice to see Brian and Wayne on the same thread that has not happened in about 18 months or so. Dont want to highjack the septic tank thread though. Just want to say hi to some old friends.

I have a full septic in my previous house and current house
i have been putting 20-30 gallons of salt water down the drain a
month with no affect not even to the grass above the leach lines

i was told by a plumber that its actualy good as it will keep
roots from growing in the lines

its far worse to use clorox if you have a septic that to put salt water
down your drains
