effects of fresh air on sps?

Due to the weather change I haven't been running the a/c anymore. I have been leaving the windows open. I have noticed that my sps that were brown are starting to color up. Could this be due to the fresh air? I have done a few changes to my tank. My main protein skimmer had some problems so I put in my back up. The back up has been pulling more waste then my main one. The other change is I have been adding snow to my tank once a week. Has anyone have this happen?

Opening the windows will dramatically increase your pH. This is because CO2 levels rise in a closed up house. My pH levels increased by 0.4 when we opened the windows when it got cooler. I also saw improvement in growth but my tank may just be recovering from a mini crash in the spring.

I better check my ph then. It's usually pretty solid. Glad to here your tank is doing better I read your thread in the spring.

Thanks fishguy. Definitely doing better but some corals that were stressed and survive have RTNed on me recently while everything new is doing well. Weird.

Anyway the change in pH is very dramatic when the windows are opened after the house has been closed up. I can monitor my pH online with my controller. Freaks my wife out when I tell her on the way home from work that I know she turned the AC off and opened the windows.

Your PH is probably up by .5 due to the air exchange. You won't see much of a difference on a test kit but if you saw it with the windows closed and now with the windows open on a monitor you would be amazed. You would also see the fluctuation between lights on and lights off is less. The fact your colours are improoving is a good sign. Your SPS are talking to you!
