Efflo's

I got a similar one from EC but it was much larger, it seems to be doing well and getting some green in it. Can't comment on it's growth yet. I do have a $500 efflo as well, and it seems to be growing pretty fast.

The thing about EC's corals are they are all wild colonies, very sensitive. I had bought a huge table that RTN'd within 24hrs of me getting it. I was able to save a small frag of it so far.

Thanks James. I passed on this one and still on the fence. Looks like someone picked up too!

I've had similar exp. with wild colonies as well and try to stay with mari or aqua cultured pieces these days. :)

I've had good luck with efflos wild and captive. They aren't as difficult as other "tables" they have fairly low demands and seem to be steady growers.

That is a hefty price for that efflo(or any efflo) IMO...they grow fairly fast, and I have seen very nice efflo frags for 20-50$. For my dollar, I'd get a 1 inch frag and let it grow

Thanks for the replies. Anyone know of an online vendor selling frags? I can't seem to find any lately.

If I'm not mistaken WWC has the 500$ efflo, if they don't have it on their site call them and they will probably be able to cut one for you

In my systems i find efflos to be very hardy in the tank. They are easy to keep alive but will be one of the first corals to brown or green up at any hint of distress. They are not good shippers. Although i find them easy to keep alive, its a challenge to keep them at peak color. In my systems, they are more hardy than most of the solies. I have the $500 efflo, a nice purple one, another purple one and a nice green one. Since they are so popular I do keep frags of all them and they are available. They grow much heavier and massive than the sollies do.

500 dollar efflo is just the name, a frag dose not cost 500 bucks"¦..(at least not any more)
I have both wild and captive, so far have had better luck with the wild efflo as growth is concerned, it grows much faster and the polyps are out all the time. The captive grown efflo is a little more colorful, but I have had a hard time getting it to grow as fast as the wild.
I love the efflo's IMO the easiest table to keep"¦.

Think he was refering to the 149 dollar price tag on the efflo in the link, not the $500 dollar efflo

that is correct. no offense to Xtreme because I have seen many corals and a couple nems I would have bought from them, but the price on that efflo is absurd. There aren't any efflos I'd spend $150 on for a large frag and I've seen a few nicer looking efflos than that one

I don't know where you guys are buying your efflos from but I have never seen a wild efflo for under 100$ retail

I got a small frag from fellow reefer for $15(not sure wild or maricultured) that I like a great deal, saw a colony of $500 for $200 I think---It was like 8" by 6"...Mine is pretty small though, was all he could give since his colony was only about four inches

4 efflos

4 efflos

They are still kinda browned out but now they are coloring up nicely. There are four efflos in this image. One of them is the 500 dollar efflo but it is smaller then the other three and not readily apparent. I have had the 500 dollar strain in my system a long time. Efflos are usually massive heavy corals. The 500 efflo is much more delicate than the other efflos. It doesnt grow nearly as massive. . I honestly question its identiity and based on my observations I think it might actually be a soli.

However here is an image of a few and if you look close you can see the elusive golden angel peaking out from under the pink pocilipora.

I just flashed back to Highlight magazine when I was a kid, how many can you spot in this picture...I spotted two efflos, I think I see a third...can't find the fourth
