Eggcrate?

If you havent looked at it yet, you should go check out the Do It Yourself forum on Reef Central, there are a lot of good ideas there and with a little searching you can find many different options.

Yeah, you might have to do a little work and read through some of the threads yourself. The search engine never works during the day.

Yeah I know. I done a search on this forum and the reef fishes forum this morning. By the time I got to the DIY forum the servers was busy. I will try it in the morning.

Do a google search with the site for reefcentral. Example eggcrate site:reefcentral.com It won't be as good as a reefcentral search, but gives you some results, better then nothing. Eggcrate will not keep in all fish, many wrasse, gobies etc will jump right through it.

I believe bradleyj has a good design using bird netting that many people have recommended. If you search for his user name you should be able to find the design information.

I think that this is probably the way to go. I'm using egg crate as a top right now and it blocks a lot of light. Not a big deal other than aesthetics but it annoys me :).

I called this company and they are going to send me a free 14 foot by 4 foot black mesh. I didn't ask for a free sample I just called to inquirer about prices and the lady said I'm going to send you a free sample since you don't need the whole roll. I know its black but can't beat free and if it don't work I'm not out of any money.

One idea is to make a frame with either PVC or eggcrate, and then use fishing line to make a grid through the center of the tank. This will let enough light through that it won't cause any problems that way. also, you can make the openings as wide or narrow as you want, depending on what fish you're worried about.
