Eheim 1260 users- use sponge or remove sponge??

Just wondering what you guys do? If you do use the sponge, how often do remove it to clean it? Is it okay to run the pump without the sponge cuz im worried that its gunna clog up pretty quick and damage the pump.

I don't use the sponge at all. I don't think it will clog unless you have a lot of gunk going through the sump. It will become a nitrate factory, however.

I use it. Keeps the little pieces of Chaeto that escape from getting into my OM Squirt. I clean it once every week or two. I'm sure it would work fine without it too.
