Electric bill and Mother In Law??

OK so I just got handed this months electric bill from my mother-in-law (we live on seperate floors but split the bills- I can hear the "Im sorry" and chuckling now.) She claims the electric has gone up $75 cause of the tank. Is this even realistic? The whole house costs $225 a month for 3 people. How could the tank be 1/3 of that?? I was wondering how much others electric bill has gone up since they set up the tank. Also how do I figure out what each thing draws so I can get a more accurate figure based on kilowatt we are being charged. The equitment I am running is listed below. I hope I get a lot of feed back on this one.

Thanks Frank

Uugh... you read my mind.

My electric bill was 260.00. Its been kinds cool here, too so we havent even used the A/C that much.

Here in MN our electric bill jumped about 30% in the last six months. I attribute it to "the energy crisis" that doesnt exist. Just like there is no reason for gas to be $2.35 a gallon right now.

I agree about gas prices. We are all being raped this time of year just because they can. They have us by the short and curlys. When I first set up my tank in Sept I checked my elec bill for the following month and it only went up about 12 bucks. Then the BIG energy hike freakin' slammed us.

well you guys are lucky, for Natural GAS, WATER, and ELECTRIC my bill this last month was 575.....

and by the way I have 2 small tanks both VHO lit.

You will need alot of people giving you 2 cents before you have the 75 extra your monster-in-law is griping about..

My tank easily consumes half the power in our house. And I work at home, have four workstation class computers running 24/7, my wife and two preschoolers are also at home, and nobody turns off the lights or the TV and I swear the washer/drier is running constantly (or at least when I'm in a phone conference).

So yeah, I think you could be putting 1/3 of the power into the tank.

Im in a similar setup since i also live with my inlaws. my 55 costs about $35-40 a month. I made the mistake of figuring it out in November and telling my wife.

Mind you i set up my tank with energy usage in mind and wanted to save as much money as I could in that area.

But i do think this "energy crunch" we are sopposedly in has alot to do with it.

You do realize that she now has something she can hold over you, regardless of what you find out her mind is made up. ITS YOUR TANK...Might as well work out an arangement or move her to alaska....

my electrical bill went up 25 bucks but we had an increase in our rate. I have 3 250w halides, 100 w pc with many pump which I guess would cost around 25-30 bucks a month. I base that on what my elect bill was before the tank and with the increase in mind. I think your tank is not 1/3 of the bill. I am running a hot tub inside of a semi heated room along with the rest of the house. Oil hot water and my bill is 163.00 per month with the lights running about 8 hours a day

I was brave and used the calculator. Is $0.12 per KWH really the norm?

I'd agree 1/3 seems high, but I guess it depends on your rate too.

I agree with U kbmdale about the move to Alaska cept one thing- I rather be the one to move since Long Island has seemd to have created a new class- We are know as the working poor LOL

I will have to call the electric company tomorrow to see how much we r being riped off for per KWH. I dont know our rate.

My monster-in-law was the deciding factor for me leaving the sunny beaches of FLORIDAand moving to the backwoods of TN... Like I always say if you can't beat'm, RUN!!!

Frank, what are your lights like? Those are usually the big power sucker. Glad my condo fee covers utilities! They must think I've got a marijuana grow house the way I use power.
