Electric flame scallop doomed?

I just purchased an electric flame scallop. I love it but I'm afraid, from what I have read, that it is doomed, as they simply don't survive in captivity. I'm afraid to add too much plankton as this (from what I understand) will increase algae growth and possibly hair algae. Any tips would be appreciated.

Flame scallops are really hard to keep for any long period of time in a small tank. Enjoy it while it lasts.

You could try to bowl feed it. Like you do small clams untill they can keep them self alive but its never going to get enough food on its own.

Yes, it is doomed. It was doomed when they picked it up out of the ocean.

They are bad in captivity, and I believe their life cycle in the wild is only 4-5 years (someone correct me if i'm wrong here.)

It just goes to show you how dangerous information is. I did serious reading about this species (obviously not on here), before I bought it today. The reading said that they do require particular water parameters (as most reef critters do), but that keeping required very little special attention (a light variation in feeding), just to avoid harassing fishes.
Now after checking out several different threads, I realize I might have made a mistake.
I'll give it a good try, however.
