Electric Scallop questions

hey, everyone, this is a first post, so hi to all.
I just put an "electric scallop" into my 6 wk. old nano-cube. It seems happy. I seem happy to have such a totally science-fiction creature in my care.
I'm wondering if anyone can tell me more about these things. Like the latin name, or what the current thinking ( sorry ) might be on what function the blue arc of electric light serves to this organism?
For those who haven't seen these guys, they look just like a typical flame scallop, but with the ability to constantly flash lines of blue electric light across the upper and lower mantle. I don't know if its really electric, or another type of bioluminescence. The light does not seem to be perceptable in darkness ( to me ); don't know if they stop making it at night for protection, or if its just invisible to us terrestrial types. I have noticed that the shrimps and crabs seem to get a shock from the scallop and now steer clear (hee he).
Its in an all-invert 24g Nano-cube. There is lots of microfauna & additions of phytoplankton daily. Its positioned itself out of the light in an open-ended cave.
Any info and advice would be appreciated... Thanks,
Half

Welcome Half to Reefcentral. I would post the usual welcome signature but I can't seem to remember where its at. Anyways in my personal experiences I've never seen scallops live longer then 12-14 months. Goodluck feeding them. They enjoy phyto's.

Electric Flame Scallops are Lima sp. Not sure they have an ID on species. You can find alot of info doing a google search.
Flame Scallops are Lima scabra.

Also place small rubble chunks around the scallop, they usually create small piles in the ocean around them.
Cheers

Thanks for the welcome.
I have taken a look at some of the resources that turned up on a Googling. I was just curious if there was anything more up-to-date about care & keeping, or any other longevity records. Also would like to read any science on the "electrical" phenomenon if someone could point me to it.
Thanks again for the welcome.
