a lfs has about a dozen of these guys in ....i didnt get into any questions with them since they were busy...i was just wondering how hard these guys are to keep? they sure are neat to look at...i know they tend to find a home hidden somewhere in your tank...but as far as care wise how tough they were to keep. Any info would be great....thanks!

They almost always starve in captivity, and they have relatively short life spans to begin with (2-3 years I believe). I'm not sure what they eat, maybe phyto.

I also would like to know the care requirements of these scallop. I saw one today at my LFS and looks awesome. Do they need MH for light? I know they are filter feeders maybe target feeding them will not make them starve to death. Thanks

they need no light but require lots of phyto. And they can move and what will happen is that it will move behind your rock work and die

if you rally want one have a tank set up for dirty eaters, such as lots of algea and overfeed the phyto. longest I ever kept one was a little over a year and a half. it was in my 75 gallon that had no skimmer , filter was a wet/dry with bioballs, and a plenium DSB.

Yeah, they definitely are short lived. I kept one for about a year as well; they're pretty for sure, but you do run the risk of them moving to a spot that you can't see and just dieing down the road. Also, like it's been said before, feed lots of phyto like DT's. Since they require so much food, they do better in softie/LPS tanks that can handle being dirtier than SPS tanks. I kept mine in a 25g, no filter, no skimmer, just LR and LS. Hope that helps you make a decision. :)
