my elegance:
-2 weeks in my tank
-sit at bottom of the tank with skeleton partially bury in sand
-first few days open up just fine
-than I start see some white intestin thingy I seen on other corals come out at some area of the elegance but still open
-I fed it mix of (brine, mysis, roetifer) once a week
-now still open but not the way it opens in the beginning

I am wondering if my tank is too clean for it

my tank is 36" x 30" x 24", two 250w de phoenix 14k, 2 vho actinic, ETSS800 skimmer on for 5-7 hours aday, schuran jetstream 1 reactor

Everything else looks nice in my tank. The area it is at is toward the back on right side tank, at low to medium flow area...

don't know what else you guys might need to know to get an idea of my situation and give me some suggestion base on it ...I will just answer them as question comes up...

any help will be appreciated.

George

I doubt your tank is to clean. Your Elegance will not eat most of the food you are trying to feed it. The food is simply to small. Do you know where your Elegance came from, Indo or Australia? Elegance corals produce these filaments in self defence or under severe distress. There are many different factors that can cause this reaction. Can you post a pic?

ok I will try some bigger food tomorrow....is from Indo....

I will try and take some pictures and post them tonight

put new carbon this morning....my elegance seems to be happier open up more than yesterday(better than the last picture posted)....maybe part of the problem is the chemicals released by the few leather(not the focus of my tank) in my tank. But I still see decent amount of the white strings like thing when it is closed up when light is off. I guess only time can tell...if it keeps improving, than it is good chance that one of the problem is the Chemical warefare.

elegance do open up when MH comes on and close up when light is off, But I will still get those white strings (intestin/stomach) all over the next day.

anyone have any idea why or experience something similar with their elegance??

also what everyone feeds their elegance?? Anything other than shrimp and silver sides??

i got my elegance from Ming of Atlantis...it was an Ausie. what ming say is true...very healthy and eats market shrimps. more hardy than indo in my opp.

ya I hear/read some where about Aussies suppose to be healthier too...

anyone feed krill? the one I think of buying is maybe 2-3 times the size of small mysis...not the bigger size

I wouldn't try feeding it while it is discharging these filaments. It is very stressed out right now. I would try to find out what is causing the stress. Are there any animals in the tank that could be harassing the Elegance? Larger shrimp, crabs, or fish that may be pecking at it?

no fish been harassing the elegance...

I will keep changing carbon every week....

any other ideas?

put it in its own tank? or that will just be more stress...

I tried krill, since I have some...elegance didn't even react to it. So probably going to see if shrimp or silver side will work.

bad news is I see little bit more skeleton.

Good news is I see 1 dark ~1cm poop like thing outside one of the mouth...maybe did eat something. Seems to stay open as long as light is on...

But it does takes a while for it to open up and for it to fully closed... fully closed seems to take longer. I guess what I am trying to say is takes longer than I thought it should. But since it is stressed, guess is expected.

I am also going to put some calcium media in a container with holes at bottom to make sure buffer the effluent up...just in case...but since everyone else is doing fine, so don't really think there is a problem..but better safe than sorry

"Good news is I see 1 dark ~1cm poop like thing outside one of the mouth...maybe did eat something. "

That's not poo. It's zooxanthellae. If the corals survives you will notice patches on the oral disk where the zooxanthellae are missing. This happens to all the Elegance corals that are going through this process.
If there is an up side to this it is that your coral is not swelling. This could be an indication that the coral has not suffered the tissue damage associated with light and is only showing symptoms of the microbe infestation. If this is the case, its chances of survival are much greater.
Your Elegance is not eating because it is ill. Trying to feed it now will simply add to the corals problems. It is going to discharge a portion of its zooxanthellae and it will produce excess slime, mainly at night. All you can do is to keep the environment as clean as possible. Keep removing any slime or zooxanthellae that build up on the corals polyp. Hopefully the coral can fight this off, if its stress level is kept to a minimum.

I see...ok...I will not feed it any more...I will just do my best to keep my water quality good and stable and remove the slim buildups.

Thanks "elegance coral" ....I hope my elegance will pull through. From my picture do you think my elegance get's enough light.

I have 250w phoenix 14k double ended MH. and the tank is 24" deep. I did uploade picture of the left side of my tank where elegace is(few post earlier).

see more skeleton....but much much less "white strings".....been removing slime w/ turkey baster ~2 times aday....still see some brownish dark things (slim or seems like more solid/non transparent dark poop like thing) near the mouth area...rest of the slim are clear

still opens up, but because of receding it can't open as big as used to.

would anyone suggest put 1-2 drop of lugols in one cup of tank water and use turkey baster to squirt some of this diluted lugol solution at the elegance where skeleton exposed??

thanks
