Elegance and Hammer Coral?

Can these two corals be placed near each other (like 6" apart) since they are in the same family of corals? I'm just wondering if maybe I should move my hammer back a little to give them more room or if they'll be fine where they are.

I'm not sure, but for the cost of elegance corals I wouldn't risk them touching. The elegance will probably win, but Murphy's Law suggests otherwise. ;)

They are both very aggressive corals and both have sweeper tentacles that can reach up to 16" long, :eek2: or so I've heard. I'd be very cautious about were I placed them.

I would not recommend keeping them that close. Most euphyllias can be kept next to each other, with the exception of torches. Elegance are a cataphyllia, and I know mine will eat any coral or slow animal next to it.

In my tank I have my hammer and elegance close enough so that they touch when they both open up big. I left it for awhile to see what would happen and the hammer ended up pulling the tenticles that were getting stung in, the rest of the coral looked fine.
The tentacles that were touching eachother were not sweepers, just normal feeders.

I have since moved the hammer up a bit and it went back to normal the same day.

My conclusion is that it depends on how happy your corals are with their position and if they like their neighbors.
