elegance coral and triggers

I have a 120 iwth over 150 ;bs of rock in the main tank. I'd really like to get an elegance coral. Do you think it would become trigger food? What about a pulsing xenia?
Thanks for the input

I have not put either in a tank with triggers. However, I have read multiple threads where triggers have left xenia alone. It's probably 50/50, depending on the trigger's mood.

Hopefully someone who has done this will post. Good luck!

EDIT: Here's an example of a Picasso with xenia. Scroll down for pics. Note that I ask him about the trigger with corals a bit further down.

I have a Clown trigger in a FOWLR tank and i think this trigger is almost reef safe .
I put all type of corals in his tank to see if he have any taste for them no nothing i was going to put him in my reef tank the only thing it stop me he is very aggressive toward other fish.
But for him been reef safe no doubt in my mine.
The only thing he will eat is snails , clams, hermits and urchins . and he will not eat any fish meat i try small cut of fish and he will not eat it.
But he will eat large live clam like mad.

A clown trigger is nowhere near reefsafe. I've seen them decimate reefs and turn nice liverock into baserock.

If you try a Xanthichthys trigger you'll have the best shot for a reef.
The Melichthys triggers are also not a bad choice.

Well this Clown trigger is Reef safe i have many corals in the tank with him never pick or eat any of them .
I think he is just as Reef safe as my Emperor that I have in my 200G SPS reef tank.
You can see is some mushrooms in the picture with him it is much more in there now but like I said before may be just this one that I have is Reef safe.

I don't know about a clown, but many have had picasso and some of the other lesser agressive triggers in with coral. I don't think that they are interested in the coral, but making a mess.

If you need to have a trigger in a reef, check out the X. triggers.

Consider yourself lucky. The vast majority of them are not.
You may also wake up one day to find all your corals gone. Hopefully it will never happen, but it has to most of the people I know who've done this. A few of them had CT in reef tanks for years with no trouble, and then suddenly everything in the tank was torn apart (including the other fish).

I agreed with you about the Clown Trigger been unpredictable .
That is the reason he is in his own tank.
Is been in that tank with a 9" tusk fish for over two years but is getting big so i think in one more year he be to big for the small fish i have in the 200G reef tank.
I will keep him in there for now it is more safe if he goes nuts one day and eat/kill the corals, no big deal i got more in the other tank they are just frag that i cut from the 200G tank over time.

two days in, my clown trigger could not be less interested in my open barain or goniopora. Tomorrow I am going to tempt fate even further. I'll be sure to let everyone know when he's reached his breakiang point.

In about 1000 more days let us know how he's doing.

I believe undulates are the only triggers that actually seek out corals and coralline algae as actual diet staples.

every other trigger will only eat them if they are bored, curious, or realy hungry and its worth a try.

(ive seen my udulate eating coraline algae like a yellow tang would eat nori on a clip)

I used to have a blue tang, that I called fatass, that if his belly just got a little less than hot air balloon status, he would start nipping at my starpolyps and actually take out huge chunks of polyps.

I had to make sure to always have nori on clip.
