Elegance Coral?

Are these things hard to keep or whats the kind of care for them? I saw one of these things at the lfs the other day for a decent price for what it was.

Someone was telling me that they can't seem to keep them alive anymore, is that true?

I got one for my 7 gallon nano but have since moved it to my 120. I wish I had pics of it before and after because it has doubled if not trippled in size since the move. I really pay no special attention to it.

For me? Very easy. But this is comming from a guy who has about 15K into his tank and cant seem to keep any SPS. I guess everyones situation is different.

Most people have told me they are fairly easy, but a hobbyiest friend of mine told me that they use to be easy corals to keep, but now they are not anymore?

Used to be one of the easiest corals to keep. Almost as easy as shrooms. This was 7+ years back. NOW, they are almost impossible to keep long term. I hear instances where an occasional specimen has been alive for a year+, but these cases are very rare. Studies are being done to determine why they are so hard to keep alive these days.

I was fortunate to aquire one from a RC member a couple of years ago which was captive grown (dropped off a mother colony) and it has done really well for me. Awesome corals, hopefully we can all keep them thriving again.

OOh is that right? I heard something along those lines, thanks alot for updating on me on the elegance situation Project Reef.

Do you think I should try one that is only $40 it is huge like at least 10" when expanded and has about 8 or 9 mouths?
Since its big do you think it has a good chance of surviving?

The larger ones generally do more poorly than the smaller ones. I'd pass up on it. Keeping an eye out for people who are breaking down their tanks and purchasing one from them is your best bet. Just make sure it's in good shape, eating and been established over a year.

chuck told me the same thing when i saw one in his tank that was not doing so well....

I have a Green Elegance that I bought in February of this year from a wholesaler out towards L.A. and it is thriving in my tank. The day I bought it some guy approached me when he saw it in my cart and tried to discourage me from buying it, stating that he had never been sucessful keeping one. I went against his advice and bought it anyhow and sure enough I've never had any problems with it. I almost never feed it but when I do I usually use Kent Marine Zoomax and Chromamax. Pics below:
