When I bought the coral I was told that it would not live longer then 6 months I was nervous at the time dropping $150 on it for that amount of time. I did it and don't regret it.

Thanks for all of the information EC and thanks for the tip on standing it upright on its base so as to not disturb the tissue with the sand. I know you have a vast amount of knowledge on Elegance corals do you think it looks relatively happy and can you confirm it's Aussie?
Usmc georgous piece that you have and as previously stated quite an accomplishment. Now if mine can live that long or longer. Thanks for all the help please keep it coming and ill continue keeping everyone updated, fingers crossed.

Well i just got back from a trip and things arent looking to good. Water parameters are the same and shading is the original screening i had on it when placed in the tank. I did change the way it was sitting in the sand by sinking its cone persay to allow no flesh contact with the sand. The first day i did tis he looked fine. Today four days later not so much, is it o late what can i do to fix it. He appears puffef up still excreating a little slime and polpy are very short. Sorry for the pics actinics are on.

I was told Aussie. I thought the Aussie elegance has a cone base. What is it that makes you think it's indo or vietnam? Overfed? I'll stop feeding it. Any other suggestions? More shade more light? More flow it's in gentle flow now.
I wouldn't feed it anymore, I never feed mine, mine is also in very high flow. Each coral is different, seeing how its been this way for awhile, try moving it around. Maybe try a shady place. I hate to try to give advice because it could alsways turn out bad, I wish you the best of luck and hopefully it works out for you.
I had one a few years ago that did the very same thing, I e turned it to the store I worked at and it actual stayed like that roughly a year and was sold.

Back in the late eighties and early nineties they were very common, actually considered one of the easier species. Most lived a long time with few issues. I don't think water parameters were actually worse then but the lighting wasn't typically what you see today. More VHO and the odd Hamilton 175 mh. Unless someone had the cash and would break down and get on Osram 250 or Iwasaki 400. I don't recall any ighting in the 15 to 20k range. I don't think lighting is the issue though.
Just my observation, but I don't hear much about strontium these days. Once people started using it the Elegance started binding to their shells. Are you dosing strontium? It may help. Sorry if my info may be out of date but I had to take a break from reefing due to my job.
I actually kept one for six years prior to breaking down my tank, I gave him to a Dr. friend of mine. He was still alive as of four years ago (or so I was told), that croral would have been 22 yo at that point!
