Elegance help

So I got this elegance about 3 weeks ago now. It was happy and open every day up until about a couple days ago.

Now it permenatly shrunk up and it seems as though there is some tissue coming off the skeleton. It's some clear looking flesh that seems to be peeling right where the coral attaches to its skeleton right around the edges.

It's on my sandbed in medium flow. Parameters are as follow:
ALK 9.3
CAL 450
MAG 1350
Salinity 1.026
NO3 0
PO4 .02
These numbers haven't fluctuated in at least 6 months.

I'm assuming that peeling flesh is not normal. I'm beginning to wonder if maybe I have it in too much flow and it's getting damaged from thrashing about in the flow, but I don't think its too much flow as before I moved my PH(thinking it was too much flow), it was open all the time.

It's usually open a bit more but not much more. TYhis is the morning as my lights are just coming on.


Any ideas?

yea he's getting direct light huge nono get him back in a shaded area let him choose how far he wants to extend as far as flow mine can take quite a bit but never full light even after having him 9 months or that will happen.They do like to eat alot

Yes hes in direct light, I will move him further into the rockwork to help shade it a bit. I'll also try feeding it some mysis. I originally stopped feeding my corals as I had a huge PO4 and NO3 issue.

Yes, my elegance is similar. I keep in the shade with fairly low flow and he seems to like that. They expand quite a bit.

Mine must be a freak. Its in high flow direct light ( low par though). Its a monster and is huge. Only had it about 4 months though and no issues yet, minus the peppermint shrimp that wanted to live in it.

Looks as though mine has ECS. After reading the article and waiting a few days after moving it, all the classic signs.

I'll make sure to buy an aussie elegance next time. I did do some research but didn't come across the ECS issue until someone linked to it here.

Even the aussie can get ecs. They can recover. Put in a shaded spot with lower flow. And give it time it will take probably 6 months or more to recover. I have saved a few. If you add another one that is not resistant it will get ecs as long as the one you have is in there. I have experienced this before and it sucks. But if you save it, it will be the hardiest coral in your tank

ECS.....? Not familiar with that.

ECS = elegance coral syndrome

Mine perished and I took it out of the tank before it polluted the tank.

According to the link, there is no saving an elegance that contracts ECS?

Yes I chucked it.

When there was nothing left but flesh coming off in big chunks, there was nothing left to save.
