Elements or CS4 for fish tank photography?

Does LR track changes, beyond the current session? For example, keeping an Undo History that survives closing the image and is available the next time the image is opened?

Yes. Also, since it's working with the RAW image, all of those edits are non-destructive as well; i.e. your RAW file never changes.

Very nice. I open my RAW but then save off in PSD right away, which I understand is loseless and also nondestructive to my original RAW. I don't get the history of individual changes saved past closing an image to my knowledge.

You start losing information when you convert to JPEG. TIFF or PSD are good to convert to from RAW. When you want to submit an image, convert it, submit it to Photobucket, Flickr, or whatever you use, and then delete the JPEG.

That's a very reasonable suggestion Absolute Reef, thank you. I am reluctant to use my trial period (30 days or whatever it is) before I'm ready to upgrade, but when I am I will do that.
