Elephant ear coral

A few weeks back I got an elephant ear coral. I've wanted one for a while and picked up a pretty nice one. Well two nights ago he was in a bubble shape and jerking around a little bit. I come to find out he just ate my yellow tang that I've had for quite along time. I'll I can say is wow, just a bit surprised. Just passing out a story and a warning to those of you who are thinking about getting one.

I recommend feeding it about once a week a small piece of wild caught shrimp. As long as you keep it fed your fish are safe. My elephant ear was one of my first purchases over 4 years ago and he has yet to eat a fish. As long as it is fed it wont make the "bubble shape" and trap a fish. I am surprised it caught the tang though, when my elephant ear closes up its a long slow process. They also make some interesting shapes.

I've had one for about 3 years and never fed it anything that I know of, I have 2 clowns and a small blue tang... i haven't had a problem

We had one. Our Midas Blenny would perch on it. It would of course slowly close around him. He would stick his head out as it closed around him. Then he would swim out....look at it and swim backwards back in the hole he just exited. It was a hoot to watch.

We called him dummy. He did finally succumb but it was to the carpet. That was my favorite fish interaction ever. Even better that the blur throat who would swim around the mag float cleaner in tight circles nose to the glass...for hours.
