An odd thing appeared on the glass of my tank a few weeks ago. A white lace type of structure. Or at least it looks like lace. very delicate. On closer inspection, it was actually a long tube folded over itself very intricately. Sort of like a very thin piece of spaghetti. Sort of the same texture as cooked pasta as well. It peeled off the glass in one lacy piece. It happened again last week. I didn't get a pic either time unfortunately. What the heck is this? I read something about elephant ear mushrooms - that they can invert and spray a spaghetti like substance out. Generally associated w/ distress or with eating a fish. I have a medium large green elephant ear - about 6" or so across, 4 mouths. Lately it has been 'flying" - lifting up most of its body and flapping in the current. It seems otherwise healthy and happy. I've only had it for about 3 months and its nearly doubled in size in that time. It is now intruding on a little Zenia on the rock nearby. Could it be a reaction to the contact w/ another coral? I have a small mix of corals, but mostly softies - mushrooms, ricordia floridas, and a toadstool. Any Ideas? I've got a camera now and if I get a chance I'll post a pic.
