Elos 120 or Red Sea Max S-500?

Hi everyone, new to this forum but looks like a good place to get some advice. I'm currently looking into getting a larger reef tank and I've pretty much narrowed it down to either the Elos 120 Marine or a Red Sea Max S-500. Both look like really nice, clean looking tanks and have pretty much everything you would need out of the box, with some exceptions. I realize that for the Elos I would need to buy the lighting which could make it more expensive but I don't mind. Does anyone here with experience with either of these tanks care to weigh in their opinions and experiences. Which one would you all recommend and why? Thanks in advance

Red Sea have a great customer service

ELOS have a great quality and have more elite feel to it but it will cost a lot more than Red Sea maybe 3 times more for everything as a package

Jmo. If I were in Miami I wouldn't settle for anything less than a Reef Savvy tank. You could get the tank, sump, and stand from Felix and it would be higher quality then Elos, and Red Sea. For the money Elos and RS has the nerve to charge you could own the best quality tank money can buy. Felix is second to none.

I have an Elos 120. The tank is beautiful, and unlike other low iron tanks I've read about, seems pretty impervious to scratches. The big issue I have with the tank is the overflow. It's design simply does not allow for efficient surface skimming.
If I was doing this again, I would get a custom tank and sump, simply because I now know enough that I woold want to design my own system. However, for a first SW tank, I'm reasonbly happy.
Lastly, an Elos 120 is only about 90 gal, so doesn't really compare with the big Red Sea.

For standard aquariums Elos build quality blows away Red Sea and every other production tank manufacturer.

Elos, but Drae makes a good point. Why not look into a custom built tank if you are going to spend that kind of money. That way you can build it from the ground up specifying the exact dimensions, overflow, cabnitry, and sump design.

Custom made certainly has all the perks your pointed out. However, the handmade craftsman quality and material IMHO can not be matched. That's what we purchased.

elos are nice tanks but to say they can't be matched is not true. Reef savvy, Coast to Coast, Miracles in glass, and A.G.E are just a few companies that are 5 star glass tank manufacturers. Felix from Reef Savvy makes the best glass tanks in the world.

With all due respect. I believe I used the term IMHO.

Yes you did. I forgot the IMHO in my post. I'm just saying if he's in Miami he should consider Reef Savvy. I would road trip from vegas for one of Felix's tanks. I have to settle for Leemar and Visio on the west coast. Quality but not RS quality.

Post in your local forum and see if you can personally view some ELOS and Reef Savvy tanks. I know nothing about RS but IMO definetly worth seeing a few of them up close and in person to see if you want to go that route. And contact RS to see if they have tanks displayed anywhere you could visit (warehouse, restaurants, etc...).

I'm looking at both Elos and Reef Savvy for my next upgrade(72x48x24). After owning my current System 70 for close to 7 years, I was really hoping to get my dream tank from Elos. But since Jesse has dropped out of Elos, I really don't want to deal with unfamiliar service with such a tank . I'm hoping you are right since I'm leaning toward Felix's work for this upgrade.
