ELOS MINI ~ 20 Gal

Thanks for the response Estefano.

I notice your hinges are already starting to rust. Did you leave water on them? Maybe they should have gone with brass hinges.

Rust

Rust

Eric:

The only parts that have rusted are the hinges, this happened a while a go... I setup the ATO system and for some unknown it came loose and it was spraying water right on top the top hinge and dripping down to the bottom one... causing them to rust, from the looks of it its only superficial since I havent noticed any difference in the way the door moves.

Todd:

5 Feet exactly will do the job, the hose is located in the Home Depot in the plumbing department. The other thing I am thinking of doing is drilling a hole on the top of the P trap so that some of the air can escape instead of being forced downwards.

do I just need to turn off the return pump totally when I go to replace the overflowing tubing with this new 5' piece of tubing? sorry for the question but i am still newbie and since my tank of course has water in it I want to be sure of what I am doing :)

yes

yes

Todd:

Yes you need to turn off ALL pumps and make sure you shake the drain tube of any residual water or you will make a mess! :)

wow i love your tank. i like the that you didnt put much rock in- it look so clean and you really focus on your corals. its coming along great!

mushrooms

mushrooms

Megg:

The size of those brown mushrooms are ridiculously large, those are really bad pictures of them since normally they are much much larger, also the red mushrooms. I will take some good pics of the mushrooms once they are fully extended, they really are very cool looking.

I am planning on cutting and glueing some more ricordias to the top of the rock next week, more pics coming soon!

Estefano

Hello:

Here are the updated pics of the mushrooms, they are really really large, the red ones are the size of a tennis ball and the brown ones are the size of a small basketball (like the ones they give away to kids)

Hi

I recently got an Elos Mini as well, and I noticed my temp in my sump is 3 degree higher than my main display. I wonder if you have the same problem because I had no idea there would be a big difference.
If so, what is ur sump temp and ur main tank.

Thanks :)

Here are some more pics.

I have come to the realization that I will NEVER have a crystal clear tank... my mantis and my damsel go at it all day... they throw sand at each other all.

Here are some really cool pics, I broke and Corafixed some mushrooms to the main rock, makes it look much nicer...

Not the leather

Not the leather

Eric:

Actually that is not the leather, my LFS had this amazing branch rock that was completely filled with mushrooms that look like ricordias. I got some epoxy out and pasted to the rock.

The leather has shed its skin already once though so I guess it is growing :)

Your peacock mantis lives in the substrate and builds a burrow of rocks, shells and debris to shore up the walls. With the fine sand substrate you have the burrow is constantly collapsing and it has to constantly excavate it's lair. That's why the sand is collecting on the outside edges of the tank. If you're lucky when the rock finally settles on the glass bottom of the tank the mantis won't be trapped under it.

For a burrowing mantis you need to add a bunch of rubble and shells so the mantis has building materials. It's fascinating to watch them collect and evaluate pieces to construct it's burrow. It will also use some of the rubble to close up it's burrow at night or when it's molting.

wow great tank love the progress how is that seafan doin what is the level of difficulty in keeping a coral such as that?

I def agree with Agu, between my bf and I, we have 17 mantis shrimp! Peacocks definitely love building! I would add some shells and rubble in there

I know this is a really old thread, but I just got my mini set up and I am having lots of micro bubbles. The pictures of the P trap are no longer loading in this thread. what is the current take on micro bubbles?
