P.S. once you own an elos tank you will never look back :)

Very clean looking tank. This will have to be my next one :) Thank you for the links Estefano.

Please keep us updated on the quality of the sump, skimmer, everything thing else you have that was included in that package

Thanks... I read through a few of the journals in the ELOS forum, lors of good info there... the only thing is, I really like a nice 14-20k blue, and it's too bad there is only one configuration for the light. They really should offer one with more than 3 blue LEDs, and a few less white. I have no doubt it would be powerful enough for just about anything you'd want to put in there though...

Another thing to note...

Since the light is an LED it can be adjusted in order to vary intensities by the amount of voltage that you pass to it... in other words you could easily simulate dusk, dawn mid-day, etc lighting intensities by running less voltage during those periods and then raising the voltage to max in order to get full intensity.

I have no idea

New Pics

New Pics

Hello:

I tested the parameters yesterday and I got no ammonia, nitrites or nitrates readings, I guess since its a very old and established rock I was lucky enough to skip the cycle process, also the water that was used was natural seawater...

I took some pics of the tank already setup, they are not the greatest pics but they will do for now :)

I am still having a bit of a micro bubble problem but I am sure that once the system breaks in they will go away.

I am planning on adding some CUC to the system later today, just a few blue legs and turbos...

nice, I still have the bubbles as well. My tank has been running for 6 weeks. I still cannot determine the cause of the bubbles at this time, if its the skimmer, the return, etc.

Micro Bubbles

Micro Bubbles

Todd:

From my experience with my Elos system 70 I can tell you with a good % of certainty that its not coming from the skimmer.

On my system 70 I used to get bubbles from either the return hose or the chamber return.

The chamber return is an easy fix, all you do is raise the water level of the sump until you stop seeing the bubbles inside the black strip of the return and all the bubbles will stop.

However, I can tell you that I am seeing micro bubbles coming from the drain and the pump is picking them up... in my system 70 those bubbles went away after around 1 month of having the system running. I am going to wait at least 2 weeks before I start "getting creative" and decide to add a bubble stopping wall before the pump... we will see.

Overall I am very happy with the mini but I NEED to eliminate the micro bubbles :)

Noice from Drain

Noice from Drain

Hello:

Many mini customers have reported that the drain is noisy (me being one of them) so I decided to take it upon myself to fix this problem...

When I originally spoke to Jesse from ELOS USA he told me that the noise goes away in a couple of weeks, which was later confirmed by Todd03blown which has had his Elos Mini for 6 weeks now; however... I dont have 2 weeks to wait and I must fix the problem NOW :)

Originally I put a very thing slice of sponge on the drain which completely silenced the drain, however I was very worried that it might clog and eventually cause the tank to overflow and ruin my office :)

This is version 2 of the "drain silencer"...

I took an old CC and cut it into a triangle shape and used a bit of tape to fixate it to the drain.

This is how it end results looks like.

This is the view from the top

and finally you can see that the water level did not go up much at all (1/8" at most)

Lets hope that in 2 weeks when I remove the triangle widget-thinggy I created the noise will have gone away.

Updated Pic

Updated Pic

Hello:

After 1 week of having the tank setup, its finally starting to look like a beautiful tank...

This is the pic of the tank using a very high speed to capture the "sparkle" that the LED creates in the sand... to be absolutely honest the picture does not do justice to the effect and how good it really looks.

Next week, I will get my B2 controller from Jesse and ill be able to dim the light from 100% intensity down to 10% intensity in order to simulate dawn to dusk and everything in between.

im going to follow this thread. im interested in a tank this size myself. so its interested to watch your build.

Melanotaenia:

LEDs is where the entire lighting industry is going, not just aquariums but cars, houses, even concerts and large events are now being illuminated by LEDs!

I do agree with you, the e-lite is not a halide replacement but like Robert De Niro said in Ronin "its the tool for the job"... As you can see from the graphs I posted previously the e-lite as good of a job as well as any halide would do in a bigger, deeper tank.

Putting a 250w or even a 150w halide on top of a 16" deep tank 3" above the water would just about boil the tank and the fish in it :)

Here is the link if you would like to see it again:

Kigs:

Yes, the rock is 1 piece and it weighs about 10 pounds which I know is less than what is recommended in a 20 gallon tank however it looked so good that I decided to just go with it.

If you guys have any questions please feel free to post away, ill post some updated pics later today to show off my new leather corals :)

Estefano
