Do emerald crabs shed their shells when they grow? I ask because I put one in my tank a couple months ago ( it was about the size of a dime) and within a week found him dead, but an hour later I seen another one but bigger ( about the size of a quarter), so I figured it was a hitchiker. But then a few days ago I found this one dead too, it had been split open at the seams and nothing was inside. The next day I find another one, this one is about the size of a silver dollar! So is it the origianl crab just shedding and growing or is it a bigger one that has been hidding in my tank for months and killing the others?
