Emerald Crab

I came home today and my emerald crab was munching on my new little Duncan frag. I didn't know they ate corals. Never bothered anything before. He now has a new home in my sump!

It can certainly happen..
Starvation can make creatures do things they wouldn't normally do...

Starvation? What do I need to feed him. Thought they just scavenged. Don’t want him to starve

Over many years I have learned that crabs, no matter what individuals say, all end up being problems. Since I eliminated all crabs in my last rebuild its being 15 months and I have not lost any fish, no corals list or contracted and still have every snail.
Crabs are opportunistic, and outside of their normal environment, who knows.
The risk is not worth what little Algae they may consume.
My current CUC is snails and 1 lawnmower, combined with great water and my own two hands.

I would always enjoy spot feeding my emerald crabs with a stick and some froze cube food. Maybe that is why they never got destructive? It really comes down to a case by case basis, as sometimes the critters are just jerks.
