Ok, i am having a wonderful!!! time trying to get rid of this bubble algae. I have tried to bring the rocks out and scrub them off then rinse them off. But to no avail, i keep seeing it slowly pop up, or they were ones that i didnt see before. Now i was thinking about getting a emerald but i was worried if they might get my fish, 3 of them sleep in the rock work. Would they be in trouble?

i have a firefish that sleeps in a big rock. my emerald never bothered it. it did my bubble algae in, though. i think it depends on the crab, the emerald in my display ate my bubble algae, but the one in my fuge has yet to touch it.

They won't get your fish. But they also might not get your bubble algae. Some do, some don't.

I'd keep picking the stuff off as you see it - but you can always try the crab. Worst case scenario is he won't eat it and you'll still have a cool crab to watch.

I had a lot of bubble algae in my 30Gal. put one small emerald in and 3 weeks later its rare for me to see any. I was actually looking for some yesterday and saw none. I have 50 lbs of live rock and it all had bubble algae on it before. Now he is eating hair algae for me. Although not as fast as he did the bubble.

He has not touched my fish and he has doubled in size in 3 weeks. Although once in a while he nips at my shrimp. They usually just jet away from him though.

I've had pretty good luck with emeralds. They have always cleaned up my bubble algae and any other algae I have had problems with. I just added 2 in my 20 long and the cleaned up a glop of hair algae i couldn't reach anyway else. This crew hasn't touched the bubble i put them in there for, but I have no doubts once they give the tank a once over they will attack it next. Oh, and I have never had one kill a fish that I'm aware of...I do a good enough job on them myself, lol.
