can emerald crabs be quickly dipped into freshwater? im trying to get rid of my bubble algae that infested the aquarium. the rocks were scrubbed and dipped into freshwater. any suggestions?
The emerald crab won't tolerate a FW dip. For that matter, a FW dip won't hurt the valonia either. Best ways to combat the bubble algae are reduced nutrients and herbivores such tuxedo urchins, long spined urchins, fox face rabbit fish and even emerald crabs.
I'll disagree about the crab but I do agree that a FW dip won't do much about the Valonia. I've put many crabs over the years into various sorts of preservatives & relaxants only to be amazed when they're still vigorously kicking after 10 minutes. A brief in-and-out into FW won't hurt a crab even tho' it may not like it.
Sorry, I was not too clear on why I wanted to FW dip the emerald. I wanted to rid of any ICH that can potentially be introduced to the tank...Will this help?
FW dips aren't very effective on ich, especially in the cyst stage which is the only stage that could possible be found on a crab. Just QT the crab with no fish for a couple of weeks.
Thank you for all the inputs.
I have actually emptied my tank of most of the rocks that had the valonia algae. There are still a little growing in the tank. Hopefully the emeralds will take care of them. They are apparently hit and miss.
