Hope all is working out for you on this. The tank really boils down to what you are most comfortable with in the end, however, I do believe that building the "cage" around the tank for the messy part should suffice.

Like I said though, it all boils down to what you can do and what makes you most comfortable.

I got a call from allstate yesterday and they are sending the check out this week, then this morning we got a call from the contractor and he want's to start the job tomorrow, he said it will be a half day's work to fix the roof and then he'll start the inside, I'm not going to be able to move the tank, I can't do it myself and there is no time to try and find a few people to move it for me so I have no choice but to wrap it in plastic and hope for the best.

If we don't have him start this week we could be looking at 3-4 weeks till he can do it. he did say it will only take about 5 day's till the job is done and they will work through the weekend including Sunday. A friend told me to stand a piece of plywood against the wall and have it come down in front of the tank so no falling sheet rock hit's the tank, my neighbor said he would do that for me me.

Then I remember about the 72 bow freshwater tank in the same room I've been focusing on the reef tank cause the work has to be done over that tank, I don't have to worry about anything hitting the FW tank just have to worry about dust and fumes, at least I have the 75 gal that I was going to convert to a SW tank, so all I have to do there is just refill the 75 move the filters & fish from the 72 and wrap the top in plastic.. Thank God for the python clean & fill... I am so exhausted...This experience has been a nightmare..... Someone pinch me so I wake up already

I think wrapping the tank you will be ok. Just be sure that the contractors are conscious of the location of the tank at all times so that they are aware not to hit, bang, bump, etc. If you get a decent contractor, he should be willing to work with you in that respect.

Yeah, putting the ply-wood on an angle over the tank can't hurt to keep larger objects from hitting it.

Thank you mfisher2112, I made them aware of the tank and he said they will be as careful as possible, he's also going to bring in some heavy duty fans to help with the fumes, I plan on sitting at the kitchen table watching everything and doing a whole lot of praying. I'm keeping my fingers, legs, arms, eye's and whatever else I can crossed.

Hi Pocono,
Thanks for asking, it turns out the roof wasn't the problem it was the window that was leaking. So far they fixed the window. they just started the inside yesterday, they removed the damaged sheet rock checked the insulation which seemed in good shape and dry, replaced the rock and have one coat of spackle done, they still have to do a couple of more coats of spackle before they get to the scary part with the popcorn, kills, primer and paint, they wrapped the tank in plastic and so far it seems everything is ok. When they start to paint is going to be the scary part especially when they spray the popcorn and kills, if you ever smelt the kills stain remover it is really potent. I think they are doing that on Sat or Sunday. So I'm still praying and keeping my fingers crossed.

Yeah, I gotta say "Kilz" is aptly named! It will definitely cover ANYTHING! I used it to cover a wall that was painted dark plumb purple. 2 coats of kilz primer and a coat of paint and POOF! No more purple!

Good to hear there was no major roof repair needed though! That's a plus! Just keep the room well ventilated, I think you will be fine.
