just got some new clams last week. Today I noticed a big hunk of white strings with some tissue on the sandbed. (this is a crocea I am referring to) DId it just lose some of it or the whole gland? Is that even what it is? Can I do anything or just hope? it is fully open and looks normal from the top. the other 2 clams are just fine.
any advise welcomed.

You mean it lost it's byssal? Is it completely detached from the clam or is it just hanging out?

the "blob" of stringy stuff i found was just in the tank- not attatched. Ijust didnt know if it was the whole glnd or just some threads. what causes this? how do I tell if the whole gland is gone? loof at the bottom of the clam? didnt want to disturb it unnecessarily

If it did lose it's foot I don't think you can do anything about it. I'd just leave it alone so as not to stress it anymore.

I don't know how well they grow back but I'm sure others here can tell you.
