Keep the sponges in the sump when there is no fish in the QT, to keep the nitrification bacteria alive. Maybe a small PH to break up the suface scum and have better gas exchange.
He was mentioning keeping a sponge or some media in the main tank that can be moved to the quarantine tank when needed so it will have good bacteria to break the waste down that the inhabitant will be producing. I think the Emperor would work fine for a quarantine tank, though I personally prefer AquaclearsOriginally posted by Norboo
Sump? no sump...just a 29 gal tank for quarantine.

It's an emperor, I forgot, it's a bio-wheel.
This is what you should do then, take the bio-wheel out of the filter when the QT has no fish, put the bio-wheel in the sump of the display tank to keep the bacteria alive on the wheel.
If you don't have a sump for the display, always keep one damsel or chromis in the QT, again, to keep the wheel alive.
A good indicator is the water surface scum/protein slick. If the QT has a lot surface scum, then you are not aerating the water enough, therefore, gas exchange on the water surface will be very restricted.Originally posted by Norboo
Will it provide oxygen?
Oxygen is picked up whenever you agitate the surface of the water.Originally posted by Norboo
AquaClear? It doesn't have biowheel...don't I need biowheel for oxygen?
If I use AquaClear, do I need to get a airpump and airstone to feed oxygen into the tank?
