Hello, need some help with my new imperator(emperor) angel. When I recieved him I nocticed he had several fungus spots on his fins. It seems to be getting worse, its been about 5 days and a white patch has appeard one side of his body. He is still eating well and the water quality is perfect. What should I do, I dont want to loose him.
thanks

Can you post a pic? Fungal infections are really not that common in saltwater systems. It may be something else so before advising treatment it's important to know what you're dealing with.

Sounds like he is stressed out , I just got rid of mine because he was getting harrased bye my sohal, He used to get the same thing. I would have to pull him out & put in OT tank, you can freshwater dip or lower salinty slowly to 1.015 in OT tank & bring back up to proper salinty.good luck dont medicate unless you have too. Use formallin if you do its a fungus.

Is it actually a white raised area or discoloration in the fish. I've had emperors for a number of years and discoloration is very common when their stressed for any number of reasons. If it is raised then it's definitely an infection and would highly recommend a freshwater dip before using any chemical treatment. Angels in the Pomacanthus genus generally do not do well in a chemical bath particularly copper. Since you mentioned it was first on the fin then the body, again if not raised could be he is rubbing against something and irrating the body which I've also seen other fish do.

In addition, flukes can also be a problem on new angels. Freshwater dip can help with this too.
