Hello,

I have a 90 gallon tank and i have been looking through the threads and seeing a lot of Emperor Angelfish and i am really starting to like the look of them. I just had some questions on them?

Can they live comfortabaly in a 90g?
If anyone has one please share?
What do they eat?
Will they always change to adult colors?
Reef Safe?

Anything helps, Thanks

Can they live comfortabaly in a 90g?Not long term.
What do they eat? In an aquarium a varied diet of meat and algae should be sufficient.
Will they always change to adult colors?Eventually.
Reef Safe?Depends on your definition, and they can be kept in reefs, but not with every coral, also each fish can be different.

I just spent the afternoon fishing my emp out of my 180. He was changing from the juvie color form and in the last two weeks turned into Mr. Psycho fish. He literally went from being cool with the other fish to nipping at everyone, including my corals. He started fighting with my majestic and that was that. A 90 is way too small for any Pomacanthus long term and as I just found out a 180 gallon is too small for an emp as well.

Thank you very much. By the looks of it so far it doesnt look like this fish will do to well in a 90g long term. I will really have to think about the decision? Thanks for the reply. I will keep posted

Wow sorry to hear about that Kahuna. Thats pretty weird how he changed like that thanks for the response.

Thank you IFbettas. Is there any angel on the little bit of the bigger size that will be good for a 90 or no?

Small Genicanthus, Small Chaetodontoplus, Large Centropyge (if you want large ones), maybe a rock beauty if you can find a healthy one, or a small regal, or a small Apolemichthys.

I have a juvenile Emperor angel in my 90 Gallon reef. He is doing Great! I feed a him a large variety of frozen foods, flakes, and pellets. I Always keep the frozen angel formula soaked in selcon and Garlic. I plan on getting a 180 soon. Mainly because of the Emperor. But I know several guys who have adult emperor angels in a 90 gallon tank, and they have had there for 3 years and 2 of the guys have had theres for almost 5 years. They say they havent bothered any of there fish or corals, they just make sure there fish is well fed. In my opinion if you keep a fish well fed and good water conditions this will really lower there aggresion.

Wow great to know Jdbrine. So far i am leaning towards not doing the emperor because of what i have been researching and seeing on these threads. That is really good that the emperors are doing really good in those 90's. I will have to get a little more yes before i turn my idea around and re-think it. But thanks for sharing and WELCOME TO RC!!!
