Emperor, if how and when to buy

I have a 4' x 4' tank x 30 inch tall tank. Is that large enough for a Pomacanthus imperator?

4 years ago, I had a Goldflake, Flame and Coral Beauty. Now I am just down to the coral beauty. The Flame was a victim of aggression (not sure if it was an angel or another fish) and constantly beat up, survived but never looked good. The Goldflake looked healthy and thriving until the day he died - no idea what happened. If I add another angel, I am worried the coral beauty may cause problems. An emperor has been on my fish-want list since I started this hobby 15 years ago and I've never tried one.

I also lost a Desjardini and Australian stripey last year, and haven't bought a fish since.

This is a weird tank right now. I have an Australian tusk, Melichthys indicus trigger, miniatus grouper, bird wrasse, 3 yellow tangs, kole tang, and toby puffer. Tank is almost all Acropora, with a huge magnifica anemone - other corals haven't done well for me. So basically a combination of ultra-clean SPS and huge predatory fish only that probably shouldn't work but it does. So I can see the advice not another big fish, but I don't want to add anything the grouper will eat.

Ken, you have 2 in a 240 and are telling me no?

It's not the volume of water, but the 4 x 4 cube is the reason, I said no. I don't think that would be great for an Emperor. Like I mention before you could do 2-3 or the smaller ones, like the Regal, Majestic, Cream, and Bluespotted, or a Black Velvet.

My 240 is 8ft and I have a Blueface and Annularis in mines. All in all, you probably could do one short term, but not long term.

Yes, I have an 8' tank. I have ~300 gallons total. I said no because mine are approaching a foot each, and in an 8' tank, they are looking quite large. In a 4' tank, I can't see them being very happy.

I would question whether I should have them in my tank as well. They seem to be fine so far.
