Emporer angel sick?

My Emporer angel seems to be fading more lately. It's acting a little strange and keeps hanging out really close to my starry blenny. Is he sick or just in the process of changing colors?

That looks like velvet to me is he breathing heavy scratching flashing swimming into the current of a power head or return pump? Also how long have you had him and did he go through qt? Finally any new additions to your tank ?

I have had him a little over a month but I bought someone that had him for four months. I am not sure about qt. He doesn't seem to be breathing heavy or swimming into the power heads. I added a red starfish a weak ago

I am a little new to this, what is the best to treat hi with and do I need to quarantine him to do so?

I'm not an angel expert by no means I think he's is changing color after looking at the adult color pattern the adult gets a whitish mouth you should see a new pattern start to develop also I did read they start to change around 4-5" don't k ow why size is the factor I would suspect age but 4"-5" might be the nominal size of them when they reach the proper age. Hope I didn't freak ya out with velvet bu that is what it looks like.
No other signs of disease so I would watch her and in the mean time look up some pics of angels changing to compare him to. I can see the adult pattern coming in on your fish the lines are changing from kinda vertical to more horizontal

Changing color patterns would not cause the fading, something is causing this externally.

Would be best to treat in separate tank, could be flukes, could be ich, etc....

In my experience, an angel fading means bad water quality. They intoxicate of nitrates as well.

Angels are notorious for flukes. If you are unsure of his past, it’s worth a thought to treat with prazipro. It is reef safe, will kill some worms and feather dusters but otherwise safe. I don’t think they would be causing the fading though.

If he is eating fine, like others have mentioned, keep up on your water quality and observe. My favorite fish but am too afraid to chance one with my sticks.

Have you ever owned an emperor?

Look at the tail and his fins, looks like tiny white dots. Plus the skin does not look healthy. Compare his pic to the ones you posted, clearly there is a difference.

No but I can tell you if there is no other signs of parasites like heavy breathing scratching flashing swimming into current lethargic fin deterioration not eating ect I would not jump to medication. The only thing that worries me about his pics is the similarities to velvet and the spots on the fins

Then you cannot speak from experience, I've been keeping large angels for many years and something is wrong with his.

Velvet and spots on fin require treatment.
