I had to take down my refugium today and emptied it out onto the ground outside. After looking down on the ground I had tons of worms at least 20-30 worms. They look just like regular worms. In fact I can't see any differences. Are these bristle worms? And are they good or bad?
bristle worms look similiar to earthworms when they are out of the water. They are flatter, and have small spines down each side, but out of water are not very visible.... I have a few in my tank, and they cause no harm..
I have not found bristleworms to be harmful in anyway, except when you handle them w/out gloves. In fact, IMO they are a vital part to a proper cleaning crew and quite tasty with a little bit of spicey mustard.
if you think they are ugly - or they freak you out, throw a wrasse of sorts in there. any time i've been without a wrasse, my tanks just blow up with them... with wrasses - i only see them in my sumps (when i used sumps, that is).
