empty external canister instead of sump

I know sumps are infinatly better but I do not have the equipment tank to fit one now so I bought a large external canister as a means of upping the gallonage of my system from 30 to 35 usg. I am using it purly for dilution like a big powerhead with no media so that i dont get a nitrate problem. the lr does all the filtering.

Is this acceptable, any comments please

Absolutely, you can add the external canister filter. A sump would be preferable, but the filter will work.
