I just bought an emrald crab yesterday, and at lunch i noticed him picking at my procillapora. Do you think this is a problem? can he harm sps? are emrald crabs know to pick at sps??

Thanks

From what I understand they shouldnt hurt them at all....they are strict vegitarians......supposed to be completely reef safe....

Yes, it is a problem. I have had similar experience with mine. I caught her several nights picking at the polyps of my acros. Got her by submerging a large plastic container and quickly placing the whole colony inside. To the sump she went.

i think they only pick at areas that have something wrong or the edges. i have watched them nervously too many times, but at the end of the day, all the sps do better with the grooming, so I quit worrying about any little dings as they always healed right back over. just been my very consistent experience for a long time.

just because they crawl all over everything doesn't mean they are trying to eat everything.

Not mine, she was digging get to the retracted polyp then moved on to another polyp and pinched the polyp and ate it. I was pi$$ed I had to remove her right away.

i have been told that only the blue legged hermits are the only true reef safe hermits. The orange and red can eat polyps and other things

I have tried a couple the first one ate a bunch of my zoos yes i watched him rip of the skirts and eat. Then the next one I tried after serverl months started pulling polyps of one of my acros.

yeah i got one thats eating my green star polyps looks like he is eating the stuff around them but can tell for sure
not to happy with ti if it is eating the coral.
