End Caps and Water Pumps

Jason,
Are the Italian VHO end caps that you have listed on your site the Ice Cap end caps?

Also, I need a water pump to replace a Rio 2100. I'm looking at the Sen 700 and the Mag 7. What are your opinions comparing these two pumps? Noise, heat, reliability? I know there were some issues with the impellar casing splitting and seizing up on the Sens. Is that problem resolved? Do all Sens now come with the newer impellars? Have there been any problems with the newer impellars? I have also heard of issues with the screws on the Mag 7 rusting and problems with the Mag 7 not being as reliable as other Mag pump sizes. What is your experience with these issues? Sorry so long.

Thanks,
Ron

Yes, same thing, just a private label.

The SEN has had some impeller problems, but haven't heard of any going bad after the new version impeller. The SEN pumps seem to have the least amount of problems compared to the other pumps. Biggest complaint is they are big and some vibration noise. I wouldn't run a SEN external though, they tend to leak.

The SEN pump will be less heat then Mag Drives, Mags seem to run a little hot.

There has been some problems with the Mag7 version, not sure why. Some have been blowing circuit breakers and some with rusting screws. I think there was probably a bad batch from the factory and they are just starting to show up. Other then these problems, the Mag drives have been very realiable. I would say the Mag1200 seems to be the best out of there line. I have one on my 100gallon tank that is going on 5 years. So you might look into that model. Mag950 looks pretty good as well.

Keep in mind that the SEN700 is equal to a Mag950, sen rates there pumps at 4 feet instead of zero, so they are pretty strong.

hope this helps,

jason
