Energy Saving????

Hi there everyone...

I had a small question....I had someone come up to me one day and tell me that if i were to buy a power converter/inverter/etc. (i forgot the name he said) but if i were to buy a power converter that will convert the current from a typical 120 volt wall outlet to a 220 volt outlet than i would save more money on electricity...

I'am not electrician but that was pretty much the just of what i understood...

Is there such a 120 volt power converter that will lessen the amount of energy drawn from the wall that will end up having less energy costs...

Please help...

You sace a little juice by 1st using 220vac, I have never heard about stepping up to 220 from 110 using any device. You defeat the main purpose of using 220 (more amps).

save money ?

save money ?

220v is more efficant than 110-120v.but you would have to buy a converter $ and then replace all of your lighting $,fans $,pumps $ and timers $with 220 models, that are typicaly larger(for commercialuse) and more expensive than 110-120v. then calculate that cost (dont forget to add in your time its not free) to the money youd save by switching.

by the way your house has 220-240v you could just put in a new 220-240 outlet where you need it. Not that I am recomending this venture. Plus a shock from 220-240 is often deadly where a shock from 110-120v typicaly just hurts.

when going to 220-240v from 110-120v you gain efficency because higher voltage has higher efficency. It offten uses less amps.
That is why power lines use super high voltages tens of thousands of volts and then step it down to 120 /240v to your house. they do make these converters but Ive only heard ov them being used in commercial factories (big ones) I am not sure if one could be found that would be small enough to be reasonable.
