Hey guys I have this engineer goby in my reef tank about the length of my hand. Anyways I've had 3 fish die in the past few weeks and they looked pretty beat up too and now my scallop has been eaten last night!. Now I only have my little yellow wrasse and a Halloween urchin a engineer goby and a bunch of hermit crabs 2 cleaner shrimp left.witch one is the killer, the goby?? I keep hearing that they are none aggressive is this true could it be something else. All my parameters are perfect as well no signs of ich either nothing else I could of think of.....thanks again

Yellow coris wrasse? If so, that's probably your culprit.

How big is the tank?

ive had multiple pairs of engineer gobys over the yrs. never seen them bother a fish a single time. they truly seem not to care cause their world is sand bed and under rocks lol Most other fish dont bother with that world...

i would think its the yellow wrasse out of the fish, if its even a fish thats killing them. they have a nice beak on them, and some can be aggressive.

by chance you dont hear clicking in the tank at night do ya??

I agree, highly unlikely its the goby. They are very peaceful fish and spend most their time in their burrows. There is a possibility that the fish are dying of disease (some fish do die suddenly without symptoms) and then getting chewed on by the cleaning crew. If you were not being the fish beat up before death, that's probably what is happening.
I had a yellow coris brass and it was never aggressive to anything, but I know some wrasse can be.

I had an engineer goby I raised from 3"s to 16"s when he died & he never bothered anyone/anything, except the sand...lol! I agree w/ everyone else--it's probably the coris wrasse. As much as I love the wrasses, I'll never own another yellow wrasse again. I know they're supposed to be peaceful fish, but the two I've kept were bullies.

Ok thanks guys I'm going to send him back to the LFS don't need to deal with that... just in case I should go fish less for 72 days then right? take the goby out urchin shrimp and hermit crabs as well????

Probably not the engineer. They don't typically bother anyone. But by all means play it on the safe side if you feel the need to
