Engineer Goby won't stop spinning

I was throwing some food in the tank as usual when I was surprised to see one of my two engineer gobies all the way out of its hole. I immediately noticed something was off when it began rolling around slamming itself into corals and rocks. It seems to be stuck in a continuous roll, and its breathing is incredibly labored. Any ideas with what's wrong with it? all my other fish, including the other engineer goby, are behaving fine.

One of my two did that too. I found him/her the next day dead

I wouldn't be heartbroken if it died, I'm just curious what caused it. I don't think its the swim bladder, it can go up and down fine. Right now it's just resting in the sandbed near some rocks, I'm sure it really tired itself out.
