Hello all, looking for another fish for my 55g reef tank and was interrested in an engineer goby. Wanted to know if it would be comfortable in my tank and compatible with my fish :fish1: Thanks guys
Hard to say without knowing your tank or other inhabitants Having said that, they do get quite large and come by their name honestly as they really do a lot of digging/tunneling/excavating. I bought 3 on an impulse by when I was new to the hobby about 12 years ago and really regretted not having done my homework on them and ended up tearing my liverock apart a couple of years later to get them out! Here is a link (and don't let the cute little juvenile picture fool you as it did me!): http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+31+165&pcatid=165
Thanks for the link and quick response. I have a oc clown, sharknose goby, 4 chromis, a few inverts and a filefish at the moment. I also have a sand bed with live rock. In your experiance, Do you think it would be ok?
I think you'd be fine with that mix. One question - are your rocks on the sand bed or are they on the bottom of the tank? There is a risk of a "rock slide" due to their tunneling if they are on the sand bed (can undermine the rocks causing them to topple).
:lmao: I can't wait to see the updates to this thread 6 months to a year after you get that dude. Rocks on sandbed with Engineer Goby = fallen rocks toppled everywhere.
These guys are actually capable of reproducing in your tank without you doing anything. So I would get a few instead of just one and your tank will be crawling with them in no time
