enough light??

Well, I think clams can survive with less light than what is posted. I had a 55 gal when I got my first clam. A Squamosa, which is a lower light clam, but still when I bought it, it was about the size of large egg. It was under two 65 watt 50/50 PCs. Grew like crazy. I have since upgraded to a 180 gal and the clam is under 2, 300 watt 10000K MHs. About the size my head now. The clam was under PCs for a year and have been under the MHs for a year. Better growth under the MHs, but as long as you keep your ALK and CAL up to par, the clam will growth fine under PCs.

I meant 2, 400 watt 10000K Mhs.... Should have proofed it...

Closer to the top the better under PCs too.

it is a fact that some clams do just fine under pc lighting. But those clams are certain individual clams. For every one clam that does fine under pc lighting there are many others that don't.

it is compareable to someone trying to survive strictly on a diet of rice cakes. It can be done but would you want to do it yourself?

True, I agree that more light is better and the overall health of the clam would be greater if under MHs. Croceas do require more light, but I do think they would survive under 3.25 watts per gallon, especially if the clam was higher in the tank.

The question was is the light enough to keep one. I take that as is the light enough to keep one alive. Which I do, but to flourish, I would throw more light on it.

Hey I like rice cakes. But seriously you can put crocea under pc lights in the top quarter of the tank; but I wouldn't recommend it for most. But before any of us can answer the question shouldn't we ask how deep the tank is?
