Equipment recommendations on a large upgrade!

Roger,

What would you recommend for SPS circulation on the following tanks? Placement and pump model?

1. 300 Gallon (72x36x27)
2. 400 Gallon (96x36x27)

Thanks in advance!

On both, I think the ideal would be a pair of 6255's and a 6215 wavebox. Placement will largely depend on tank layout but either centered on either end or in a back corner, in about 6-8" from the side wall and aimed diagonally across the tank will generally be best. The wavebox would have to go on a side wall aimed down the length of the tank.

Roger, thanks for the reply! Just to make things a little more difficult... I already have (2) of the newer 6105's.

Should I
1. Sell the 6105's and upgrade to the 6255's
2. Keep the 6105's and add the 6255's
3. Keep the 6105's and add 2-4 more 6105's

Thanks,

The biggest issue I see with the 6105's is that such a big tank likely has 1" glass or acrylic and it will cost $100 to get the magnet holders for that thickness of material. I would either sell them or keep them as emergency back ups should a pump got down in the future.

Actually I've decided to go with the 300 (72x36x27) and it will have 1/2" or 3/4" glass and I already have the upgraded magnets. Now what? Thanks! I really appreciate it!

The 300 is at the lower end of where I would use 6255's, so you could very feasibly use a 3rd and possibly 4th 6105. The wavebox and 2 6105's could even be enough depending on the type of SPS and how heavily stocked and filled with rock the tank is.

Sorry for so many questions!

It looks like I will be going with a 300DD with corner overflows.

What do you think would be better?
1. (4) 6105
2. (2) 6255

If I went with (4) 6105s how should I place them?

I was even thingking about (2) 6105s and (2) 6255s... Would this be overkill?

How thick is the glass? In general I prefer multiple pumps as it gives you a greater safety margin if one goes down. Keep in mind that out of the box a 6105 is only suitable for up to 1/2" glass and extending this to 3/4" adds about $50. The 6255 out of the box works on 1". 2 6255 is cheaper and occupies less space, but 4 6105 gives more flow sources, that means you can aim at more potential dead zones and as I said, if you lose a pump and it needs to be repaired, it is much less of an issue. Both could work, I think 2 6105 and 2 6255 are overkill. Really, 2 6255 is likely overkill but within reason.

As a starting point, how would you recommend placing (4) 6105s?

I could see going 2 ways, one in each back corner high and one low and using interval mode. Or, all parallel to the back wall in sequential mode.

another big tank config question

another big tank config question

hey, just bought a 750G, 1" Acrylic, its 4'x8', thinking two waves boxes, should I get the extensions, do the stock magnets on the large box fit a tank this thick, this would be set up peninsula style, I would prefer to have all the pumps on one end, I will have a closed loop on the other. Could I make a wave in an 8 footer with two of the largest wave boxes?

Thanks in advance!

Andy
