Eshopps 3rd gen R-200 Sump Help!

Hi all I am hoping someone can help with this as I have a concern with the skimmer section in this sump!

I was looking at another post with in this Forum about the 3rd gen R-200 and noticed some distinct difference between the two that are kind of alarming.

In the other post the teeth that go from the skimmer section to the return pump section that regulate water level is 1 inch tall with the minimum water level being at 8 inches. Mine on the other hand which was purchased in 2015 just like this gentleman did are instead two inches tall with the minimum water level being at 7 inches.

I know that the new ones on BRS that are 3rd Gen now have an adjustable acrylic plate to adjust water level, but I am trying to avoid buying a new sump.

My question is, will a skimmer work at these depths when most are recommended to be at 8 inches or above? I am really considering the Aquamaxx FS-80 for this sump but the recommended water level on Eshopps website is 8.6 inches. In order to achieve that I would have to add so much water to the return sump that it would not flow very well.

The first picture is the other gentleman's and mine is the 2nd picture, very distinct design difference.

Any help is appreciated here.

thank you.

You can easily glue on a rectangular piece of acrylic using “weld-on” exactly at the midpoint of your weir, thus mimicking exactly, the other gentleman’s version of the sump that you referenced. That’ll give your skimmer section about an 8.5” water depth that your looking for, for your FC-80 skimmer.

Amazing how I did not think of that, thank you! I am still curious the settle change they made in the same year to shrink that. The new ones as mentioned have an adjustable plate, so I wonder if they released the design flaw besides the tiny return sump.

I would ask the OP in the other thread that you referenced, how the flow is with his 1” weir. If he’s happy with his flow, than the simple modification might be a worthwhile solution for your situation.

The aquamaxx skimmers have an adjustable gave valve which is used to tune the skimmer and will be fine to adjust for the .8" you are concerned with.. You should not need to worry about the skimmer chamber water height. When I ran an RS-200 Gen 2 I could tune the chamber water level by jutst adding more water. I usually ran between 8" and 8.5" with a Bubble Magus Curve 7 just fine

That is what I had originally done, just didnt want it to ruin the efficiency of the flow in that section. I am going to try both options!!! Thank you both for the help!!
