Eshopps psk100 good choice?

Hi all,

I recently got my 80 gallon tank setup, and I have a eshopps rs-100 sump. I was looking at the eshopps psk-100 in sump. I found the psk-75 on amazon and I could have it by labor day (which would be ideal) even though it is smaller. I cannot find the psk-100 that I can get shipped to me within a few days.

Also I found the reef octopus classic space saver 110, but way more expensive than the eshopps...

Anyways, would the 75 be enough for an 80 gallon? If not, any recommendations.

Have you looked at the bubble magus on amazon? I just got my curve 5 on amazon prime this week! Works SO well.

I have not seen that one but will check it out!

Question: With these "in-sump" skimmers, they do not directly hook up to your plumming right? So, they just sit in the sump and draw water in through a pump?

Never had a skimmer (or a tank this big) thats why I am asking

Yup, the internal skimmers just sit in the sump and require no plumbing.

hey c3hutson,

went ahead and purchased the same skimmer of amazon and will arrive later this week. The reef octopus I was looking at was out of stock on marine depot and took over 2 weeks on amazon.

Thanks for the recommendation cant wait to set it up.

Happy reefing

Just saying I have the psk100 I really like it, it's pulling out some really dark skimmate. Only downfall is the water adjustment was a little finicky at first and I was going to mod it to use a gate valve but it has become much easier the past few days. For the price and what it's producing it can't be beat imo.

As an update, my skimmer seems to have broken in and I'm now pulling like 1 cup of dark skimmate every 2.5 days!!!! This thing is a beast..

Thats awesome, sounds like a lot! I should be getting mine in the mail tomorrow. I will definitely let you know how it works. Thanks for the recommendation.

Any time. I'd highly recommend setting it up on the "max" setting for the first several days. The wording is really strange, but when it is at max, it basically means lower bubble level in the neck of the skimmer. You'll find that the level will fluctuate a lot the first week and I fiunf that anything under max made it overflow with water. I got skimmate on max setting "lowest level of bubbles in skimmer". It would occasionally drop way down but then come right back up.

Ok, UPS finally delivered the skimmer. It is set up and on max, and the bubbles seem to come below the collection cup. I have heard they can take some time, but will this level rise?

It should as dissolve crud starts to build up. If wait til the morning to adjust it unless you are cool with it randomly overflowing overnight haha

Honestly I think I am just going to let it run its course at this point. It rose some, but I got work early and will have to check it in the morning. It is starting to pull some stuff I am so happy haha. Water level is at 9" in the sump. Tomorrow I got to get you some pics man. Thanks for the help.
