The web spam that auto-logs at phpbb2 is unreal. I'd recommend we get vBulletin (like RC does) for $160 if we were going to get serious about a web board, but I don't think we have the need for that kind of expenditure.
My first attempt to stop it was to disable auto-registration of passwords. But people kept signing in and I got a deluge of "approve me" emails (even though I changed the address to "biteme@easttnreefclub.com" so I could route them straight to the trash).
My latest attempt should prove more fruitful, but I need you guys to go by and check it out. I have password protected the entire forum. The access info is as follows:
username: etrc
password: etrcpw
This should prevent the auto-bots from gaining access so I don't have to clean out 40 new crap usernames from the memberlist again. If this works, we'll open up the public portion of the board again for The Coral Reef and the like (those that need to post outside the rules here at RC) and publish the username/password as a popup over the forum link button.
Please check out our forum and see if ya'll still have easy access after logging on with the extra screen. It took me two log-ons (one for initial access and one when I asked it to remember my password).
