euphilia vs euphilia

are there any problems with hammer and frogspawn heads touching each other, or are they fine in close proximity?

They usually don't bother each other. Hammers with other Hammers or Frogspawns will work, but Torch corals should be kept away from them.

thanks, thats what i needed to know. (torch is on the to aquire list).

anyone else want to concur?

I read that Frogspawn and Hammers could touch but not torch's with other euphylias. But my torch has continued to grow and has touched both my hammer and frogspawn without any reaction. I must note that it was the torch's sweepers that touched the other corals (if that makes a difference?)

I have all my Euphilia together (that includes torches). They're all in the same family, therefor they pose no threat to each other.

they are all euphilia so they should all be fine. however torches do tend to be alittle more aggresive and that could possibly cause a problem at some point......but most report all is well.

I agree with RandyO- keep "Torch" coral distant from other Euphyllia.
I kept my Euphyllia species close to one another for many years until the Hammer (or was it my Frogspawn?) zapped the Torch and killed it overnight. Torch coral is the least aggressive, IME.

I kept my FS and Torch together for a year. Then one morning I woke up and the FS tentacles were INSIDE the heads of the torch. Melted the poor guy, and he was a fantastic specimen. Keeping them together might work for a while, but its only a matter of time. It was a bummer, but kinda cool to see. It looked like a horror movie.

this is the answer that eric borneman gave me when i asked about euphyllia compatability

None of the Euphllids require a lot of light and some are found in
quite dim light. They also have a rather unusually good
compatability together, although the more distantly related the more
likely they are to compete. I think you can solve that simoly by
moving species around and seeing which get along the best. They still
may form sweeper tentacles, especially if newly introduced or in
strong water flow, but any competitiion should subside over time
through a habituation response if it occurs at all. Good luck and it
should be a nice tank,. I would also suggest quarantining any new
arrivals due to the high number of Euphyllia that arrive in poor
condition or with diseases. That way, you can avoid the fast
transfer that could occur in a Euphyllia-dominated tank.

Best,

Eric

Yeah. And Sprung/Delbeek one (or was it two) also suggests that Euphyllia can be grouped together.
(That's the original reason why I placed mine near one another.)
Good thing we can share actual experiences on RC.

ive had my torch kill 3 heads of my hammer b4
its killed a nice xmas acan and small blasto frag

the tents get so long that if i put my hand or pincher in that side it cuts off their tips and they can blow around the tank and zap some poor unsuspecting coral down the road. but I do love the look over a crappy bta.
