I have a hammer coral that is not expanding. I used to have it in a 4 gallon pico that was going into slow decline and the corals were losing color and did not expand fully. About 3 weeks ago I moved the corals into my Solana which had been fully cycled. All of the other corals have made an amazing come back including a smaller frogspawn. The hammer is still not really opening, though there is definate retraction after lights out. There is also some significant tissue loss. He is currently about 4" off the sbstrate under a 150w MH in a medium lighted area. He looks healthy, as in no sign of parasites ( I do have a few flatworms ) or infection.

Forgott to mention:He is in a medium-low flow area. The frogspawn and hammer are in the same location. Frogspawn is doing great.

Try placing it in very low flow. My hammer doesn't like much flow at all. Just enough so that the polyps sway...

they actually like random flow. mine have none-medium, and they love it.

i have had my hammer for about a year now... went from 2 heads to about 10ish (some are splitting). they are very easy to keep, so, yea.

its a far cry, but perhaps your frog is mildy stinging your hammer. at least try to split them up, and see what happens.

i dont know if this is the same thing...but i had my hammer in a 12g and it was doing great. but once i moved it to my 30 it took forever to reopen/expand but now its alive and well. it is at the top center of the tank in a low flow area between koralia and sump return...it loves it has doubled in size. I hope it bounces back for you
