Euro-Reef DIY clone.

How did you do the neck? Did you use the cutter to cut the correct size hole and then weld the pipe in or did you use the router and flush cut the bottom piece and then glue on both sides?

Can you post more detailed pics of the riser tube into the collection cup?

niko - that venturi comes with the sedra pump.

ejamsrhere - the neck is made from 4" acrylic tube which fits perfect into the 4" union. then I simply cut it to the right size and glued it in place with weldon-16.

From the neck to the body, I glued the neck to a flat piece and once the glue was dry, I used a flush cut router bit to remove the excess material inside the hole.

So, the riser tube in the cup doesn't go through the bottom of the cup, right?

Do you have a picture of your circle cutting jig?

No, the riser tube is in two sections. I don't have a picture of the circle cutter, but I will have to take one and post it here.

Pikey, do you think you could give us all the dims. (on the skimmer you first started talking about in this thread) for all the diff. pieces of PVC and Acryl. (Length and Dia.)? I'm thinking about "copying" you.

For the tube to fit in a 4" pvc part, the tube needs to be 4.5" OD.
Just to clarify.....

grreefer - where can you get schedule 40 4" pvc unions? I was told that large unions are only available in Schedule 80...

P.S. I don't have this skimmer anymore so I can't get the measurements for you. Sorry.

They didn't have sch. 40 in 4" but I got the 3" one. The guy there said they are only (as far as he knew) used for hottub heater lines, which require sch. 80. He couldn't understand why they even had the 3". Though I wouldn't be surprised if you can get a 4" in sch. 40 you just have to keep looking. But then again why bother, just start looking for a 5" since you will probably be needing one of those in about 2 weeks anyway. HOW BIG CAN YOU GO!:D :strooper:

P.S. Has anyone checked Home Depot?

Pikey, Did USPlastics make you buy a 6 foot minimum on the acrylic tubing or did you just get what you needed? I threw in the towel on my DIY skimmer because the acrylic tubing was pricing out too high.

Thanks
Scot

I'll buy the 6 foot for $55.38, cut it in half and sell you a 3 foot pc. for half ($27.69) plus UPS ground to you. I get a good discount through where I work so it should only be around 5.00 give or take. Let me know if interested, if you are give me your zip code and I can tell you the amount for shipping. We can do PayPal to protect us from each other.

I got it from a pool/hot tub sales and service shop called Polynesian Home Center. It was the only one they had but another plumbing supply shop I called said they could order me one but I told them no thanks and I did not find out the price. Remember this was a 3" not a 4".
