Euterpina accutifrons

Seahorses

Hi!
I'm new to the website, but I have gotten a lot of helpful tips off this seahorse section. I've been wondering where I can get Euterpina accutifrons. On lots of websites raising seahorses said that they also used Euterpina accutifrons with great results. So I'm just wondering where I can get them...
Thanks!

I don't know of any North American sales for them but if they are available, it would probably be from sources places like universities would order from, not from hobbyists sources.
You could try MOFIB - Zooplankton forum http://www.marinebreeder.org/forums/viewforum.php?f=144
Someone like Adelaide Rhodes might be able to help you.
You could contact her through her Ocean Pods site http://www.oceanpods.com/
However, I don't know what your actual intended use will be, but basically it will only be as an occasional feeding for food diversity, as culturing in any meaningful numbers is labour intensive. They are slow to increase population similar to gammarus and amphipods, from what I can discern.
As the seahorses mature, the larger gammarus and amphipods make more sense to me as you don't need as many for a seahorse meal.
I no longer bother much with the pod cultures as it is much easier to grow brine shrimp to adult and enrich them with Dans Feed from seahorsesource.com.
I feed frozen mysis/brine mixture as the base feed, and live enriched adult brine a couple of times through the week.

yep just as an occasional treat and maybe put some in my refugium.... I know that dwarves love that extra copepod treat so when I heard that they are good for seahorses I just thought that I should get some. But it seems its hard to get a hold of them so I'll just buy tisbe or others.... Thanks for the sites though rayjay!:spin1:

I've seen no studies indicating that Euterpina acutifrons is any more nutritious than other pod forms. In fact, Euterpina acutifrons, because of their size, wouldn't be a first choice for me for adult standard sized seahorses, but at least they are larger than many copepods.
They would probably be fine for adult dwarfs, or the nauplii would be good for seahorse fry of dwarf or standard.
This is why I mentioned gammarus and amphipods as preferable for standard sized seahorses as the nutrient content I believe is probably as good as Euterpina acutifrons, but size-wise, the gammarus and amphipods are superior.
