Even when you take precautions, it can happen to you Red bugs

With each new coral I get, I do a 6-8 hr treatment of intereceptor in a bucket with a powerhead, sitting the bucket in the sump for temp consistancey

Tonight I was looking at the coral I JUST treated from CPE and saw the little bastages on it. I am done removing corals and treating outside the tank

I am going to nuke the tank. I will do this 3 times before frag swap, so I can guarantee I will red bug free.

I have searched and find bits and pieces on info about how to treat, but I cant figure out how much to use. Opinions differ

I have figured my total water volumn is 850 gallons give or take a bit.

Few questions I have for the reefers here before I go outside the club to post:

1. After I treat, if I am not going to introduce crabs or shrimp back into the system, do I still need to do water changes and run carbon?

2. Would it be a bad idea to do a treatment every 4-5 months just in case?

3. After I treat, what steps do I need to take? All I care about are the corals and fish at this point

I feel its the right thing to do to let people know I found some. I havent seen them before and I keep a constant vigil out for them. I hope everyone knows I am treating for them and understands why I am posting this and not hiding the fact I have them

Thanks all, want to treat tomorrow. It helps that I have a Lab who take interceptor monthly

I had no idea, I thought all acros could get red bugs.

If you look very close to your coral, you will see what looks like small red dots about like the head of the pin. You can see them, but they are small

Dont need any help but thanks. Just going to dose with interceptor

Here are a few pics, taken from my lime nasuta (RIP :( ). My tank has been treated, these pics were taken 6+ months ago.

The best advice I can give would be to QT everything AND treat periodically, perhaps every 3-4 months.

will these guys only live on acros?

for example, if someone were to get a zoo frag from stlouisguy, would you need to hit it with interceptor? or would the bugs not be on the zoo rock?

That is a nice, or was a nice looking coral.

Only on some Acros, not on anything else. In the experiements Boreman did if they were not on an acro, they died within 3-5 days

I had them before and the interceptor killed them immediately. I also lost a few shrimp and all hermits. That is one reason I now have a hermit free tank. Makes it very easy to treat without harming anything.

I noticed an immediate change in polyp extension once treated (within an hour).

Since I wasn't planning on adding any crabs, I left it in the tank without a water change. From what I have read, interceptor doesn't hurt anything other than crustaceans.
